The competition was a big success and attracted the coverage of Lianhe Zaobao and the Straits Times.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>5 Nov 1992<\/td><td>Mr Li Lie Gang initiated and organized the concert entitled \u201cMelody in Harmony\u201d showcasing the talents of winners of the Children\u2019s Mandarin Songs Singing Competition at the Auditorium of RELC. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Founding of the Society<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>Jan 1993 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/td><td>\u00a0Mr Li initiated the establishment of Hua Xia Philharmonic Society, together with 14 other members from the choral groups under his charge, including musicians, writers, and businessmen and women who are music lovers. Dr Ho Kah Leong, then the Parliamentary Secretary of Singapore, and Prof Kuo Chen-Yu Eddie, then the Dean of The School of Mass Communication, NTU, served as the advisors. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Jan 1993 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/td><td>The Society was officially registered with ROS on 9 Jan 1994.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Major Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-weight: inherit; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;;\">8 Feb <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-weight: inherit; font-family: \u5b8b\u4f53;\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">1994 \u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/td><td>The Society held a grand opening ceremony cum concert at the Oriental Hotel. Mr Pan Shou, renowned Singapore choreographer and poet, was also invited to be one of the advisors.\u00a0<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>21 Mar 1994<\/td><td>Organized the concert entitled \u201cAn Evening of Poems and Songs\u201d (\u5b8b\u8bcd\u4eca\u66f2\u6b23\u8d4f\u4f1a).  It was an event combining calligraphy, singing and recitation. <br>Venue: DBS Auditorium.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>15 Aug 1994<\/td><td>Organized the concert entitled \u201cVoices of Angels\u201d (\u5929\u4f7f\u4e4b\u97f3)\u00a0showcasing the talents \u00a0of \u00a0Hua Xin Children\u2019s Choir, Taipei, Taiwan. <br>Venue: Singapore Conference Hall.\u00a0\u00a0<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>28 Dec 1994\u00a0\u00a0<\/td><td>Organized \u201cJoann Huang In Concert &#8211;\u00a0A Night of Poems and Romance\u201d (\u6d6a\u6f2b\u8bd7\u60c5\u4e4b\u591c).\u00a0<br>Venue: Victoria Concert Hall.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><br>26 Feb 1995 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/td><td>Presented the concert entitled \u201cA Rendezvous with Tang Poetry\u201c (\u5510\u8bd7\u65b0\u97f5). \u00a0The event was a combination of recitation and singing with lyrics printed in the programme. <br>Venue: The Victoria Concert Hall.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Apr \u2013 July 1996<\/td><td>Launched and organized the National Children\u2019s Wholesome Songs Composition Contest. \u00a0The event was completed jointly with Lianhe Zaobao and Mediacorp Capital 958 \u57ce\u5e02\u9891\u9053.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>27 July 1996\u00a0\u00a0<\/td><td>The final contest was held at the Auditorium of Singapore\u00a0Press Centre. The event also\u00a0included a public talk by Mr Yan Liang Kun (\u4e25\u826f\u5764\u5148\u751f), a renowned Chinese musician and great conductor from China. He was the chief judge of the contest.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Apr \u2013 July 1997<\/td><td>Launched and organized the 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0National Children\u2019s Mandarin Songs Singing Competition, jointly with Lianhe Zaobao and Lianhe Wanbao.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>20 July 1997<\/td><td>Presented concert showcasing the finalists of the singing competition. The concert entitled \u201cSongs of Angels\u201d (\u5929\u4f7f\u77e5\u97f3\u6f14\u5531\u4f1a) was held at the Auditorium of DBS.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>July 1998 \u00a0<\/td><td>\u00a0Compiled and published the book recording the music scores of all the winners of the \u00a0national children\u2019s wholesome songs composition contest and production of a CD of \u00a0these new songs.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>15 Nov 1998<\/td><td>Initiated and organized the first series of public forum entitled \u201cMusic and Life\u201d (\u97f3\u4e50\u4e0e\u4eba\u751f)\u8bb2\u5ea7,\u00a0\u00a0jointly with Lianhe \u00a0Zaobao. \u00a0The three speakers were: Mr Jin Xiang, renowned Chinese composer (\u4e2d\u56fd\u8d44\u6df1\u4f5c\u66f2\u5bb6\u91d1\u6e58) , Prof Xi Mu De, veteran vocal\u00a0music specialist cum educationalist from Taiwan (\u53f0\u6e7e\u58f0\u4e50\u6559\u80b2\u5bb6\u5e2d\u6155\u5fb7),\u00a0and well-known concert pianist Prof \u00a0Yu \u00a0Jun Yu (\u65b0\u52a0\u5761\u8457\u540d\u97f3\u4e50\u5bb6\u90c1\u541b\u7719). \u00a0Chairman of the event: President Li Lie Gang. <br>Venue: Auditorium of Singapore Press Holdings.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>26 Sept 1999 \u00a0<\/td><td>Invited well-known artists and cultural medallion recipients Mr Kuo Bao Kun \u00a0(\u90ed\u5b9d\u5d11)\u00a0\u00a0and \u00a0Ms Goh Lay Kuan \u00a0(\u5434\u4e3d\u5a1f\uff09<br>to give a talk on the couple\u2019s tireless journey of search in arts. The title of the talk in Mandarin was: \u8ffd\u5bfb\u827a\u672f\u7684\u5fc3\u8def\u5386\u7a0b-\u00a0\u8c08\u827a\u672f\u6e38\u620f.\u00a0<br>Venue: The Boardroom of the Pine Gove Club.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2\u00a0Jan 2000<\/td><td>Organized the 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0public forum on \u201cMusic and Life\u201d, jointly with Lianhe Zaobao. The three speakers were: Vocalist Mr Liu Ke Qing (\u5218\u514b\u6e05\uff09 from Germany. Mr Wu Long \u00a0(\u5434\u9f99), concert pianist from Boston, and Mr Choo Thiam Siew (\u6731\u6dfb\u5bff), Executive Director NAC\u00a0of Singapore. The event was chaired by Mr Li Lie Gang, president of Hua Xia Philharmonic Society. <br>Venue: Auditorium, Singapore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>3 Jan 2000 \u00a0\u00a0<\/td><td>Organized the concert entitled \u201cSing to the New Century\u201d (\u4e16\u7eaa\u4e4b\u6b4c<br>)\u00a0and presented by the three renowned vocalists: Mdm Hu Xiao Ping (\u80e1\u6653\u5e73)\u00a0from Canada, Mr Liu Ke Qing (\u5218\u514b\u6e05)\u00a0from Germany, and Mr Li Lie Gang (\u9ece\u5217\u521a)\u00a0from Singapore. <br>Venue: Victoria Concert Hall.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>26\u201328 May 2001<\/td><td>Produced and organized the stage performance of an original Mandarin musical entitled \u3010Serenade\u3011(\u6b4c\u4e2d\u60c5\u2013\u539f\u521b\u534e\u8bed\u97f3\u4e50\u5267<br>). The musical was a big success and was commended by local critics as \u201cA pioneer in the production of Mandarin musicals in Singapore\u201d. Mr Li assumed multitasks by being the producer, music director, composer, and the main male role. A total of 26 original songs were composed by Mr Li. The project was spearheaded by the Hua Xia Philharmonic Society jointly with the New Horizon Music Society. Two other organizations also assisted the completion of the project via participation in fund raising dinner concert in Feb 2001. <br>Venue: Kallang Theatre for 3 nights<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>23 Mar 2002 \u00a0<\/td><td>Organized concert entitled: My Heart\u2019s Desire (\u5fc3\u613f)\u00a0. The concert was presented by Ms Dong Ming Xia\uff0csoprano (\u5973\u9ad8\u97f3\u8463\u660e\u971e) , Mr\u00a0Zhang Jiang Lu\uff0cbase\/baritone (\u7537\u4e2d\u4f4e\u97f3\u5f20\u5efa\u9c81)\u00a0from Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and Singapore tenor Mr Li Lie Gang and Singapore soprano Stella Zhou, together with choral members from the Hua Xia Philharmonic Society and those from New Horizon Music Society. \u00a0<br>Venue: VCH. \u00a0<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>24 Mar 2002\u00a0<\/td><td>Organized the 3<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0forum on \u201cMusic and Life\u201d, focusing on the production of musicals. There were 100 plus choral members taking part in the concert to raise fund for Singapore Home Foundation. <br>Venue: Singapore Conference Hall. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>2003<\/td><td>(No major activities were carried out during 2003 owing to SARS pandemic)<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>28 Mar 2004<\/td><td>Presented the concert entitled \u201cSplendor is the Starry Night\u201d (\u661f\u5149\u707f\u70c2).<br>Venue: Theatre, Raffles Hotel.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>19 Feb 2005 \u00a0<\/td><td>Public talk on vocal music by Mr Li Lie Gang.<br>Venue: Auditorium, the Nanyang Girls School\u00a0<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>26 Feb 2006<\/td><td>Organized a grand talent show of several outstanding members in the area of short film production, writing and singing. \u00a0\u00a0<br>Venue: Board room of Garden Hotel \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><\/td><td>The following projects were accomplished jointly with the New Horizon Music Society<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>25 July 2004 \u00a0<\/td><td>Organized the concert entitled \u201dNight and Day\u201d (\u65e5\u6708\u4e4b\u604b) highlighting the splendor voices of American soprano Ms Blythe Merrifield and Singapore tenor Mr Li Lie Gang accompanied by concert pianist Ms Ma Si Hong from Shanghai Conservatory of Music.<br>Venue: Esplanade Concert Hall<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>04 Sept 2005\u00a0<\/td><td>Organized concert entitled \u201cMagic of Emerald\u201d (\u795e\u5947\u7684\u7eff\u5b9d\u77f3<br>)\u00a0and presented songs from Chinese musicals and movies by a total of nearly 100 choral members. <br>Venue: VCH<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>04 Mar 2007 \u00a0\u00a0<\/td><td>Organized the concert entitled \u201cLet\u2019s Celebrate Spring in Splendid Voices\u201d (\u58f0\u4e50\u7480\u74a8\u8fce\u65b0\u6625)\u00a0showcasing the talents of 12 outstanding vocalists in Singapore. <br>Venue: VCH\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>04 May 2007<\/td><td>Organized the concert entitled \u201cI Have a Dream\u201d (\u6211\u6709\u4e00\u4e2a\u68a6), \u00a0presented by 5 choral groups including children\u2019s choir and youth choir under the directorship of Mr Li Lie Gang. The repertoire included many songs from Western musicals such as \u201cMama Mia\u201d, \u201cPhantom of Opera\u201d, \u201cles Meserables\u2019, \u201cLion King\u201d etc. <br>Venue: VCH<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>06 Apr 2008\u00a0\u00a0<\/td><td>\u00a0Organized the concert entitled \u201cIn the Field of Hope\u201d (\u5728\u5e0c\u671b\u7684\u7530\u91ce\u4e0a). The concert was presented by Ms An Jin Yu and Mr Wang Zhen, two vocalists from Xian Conservatory of \u00a0Music, and Mr Li Lie Gang. \u00a0Venue: VCH\u00a0<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>30 July 2008 \u00a0<\/td><td>Organized the concert entitled \u201cOne Song, One Dream\u201d (\u540c\u4e00\u9996\u6b4c<br>), inviting 12 vocalists and Shiyan Choir\u00a0to deliver songs in celebration of Singapore\u2019s National Day, Singapore\u2019s success biding to host the World Youth Olympic Games in 2010 and the opening of 2008 Olympic Games in August in Beijing . <br>Venue: VCH<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>25 Apr 2009<\/td><td>Organized the concert entitled \u201cLove as the Azure Sky\u201d (\u7231\u5982\u84dd\u5929). \u00a0The concert was presented by three vocalists i.e. Ms Hang Ying, soprano, Mr Li Lie Gang, tenor and Mr Yin Zuo Fa, tenor, accompanied by the renowned concert pianist Mr Ong Iip Tat. The event was held jointly with Singapore University of Social Sciences. \u00a0<br>Venue: Performing Arts Theatre, SIM Headquarter.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>22 Aug 2017\u00a0<\/td><td>Organized the concert entitled \u201cOn Wings of Songs\u201d (\u4e58\u7740\u6b4c\u58f0\u7684\u7fc5\u8180<br>). \u00a0The concert showcased the talents of Ms Xu Yu Ping and Ms Zhao Shi Wa, young sopranos from Shanghai and Singapore tenor Mr Li Lie Gang, together with choral members of the two societies. Venue: Recital Studio, Esplanade<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>19 Aug 2018<\/td><td>Organized the concert entitled \u201cSongs from Two Cities\u201d (\u4e24\u5730\u66f2). \u00a0The concert was presented \u00a0by Mr Li Lie Gang and his students from Shanghai and Singapore. Venue: Recital Studio, Esplanade.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>30 Aug 2019<\/td><td>Organized the concert entitled \u201cThe Enchanted Night\u201d (\u591c\u4e4b\u9b45\u529b). <br>Venue: Theatre, China Cultural Centre, Singapore<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>07 Sep 2019<\/td><td>Organized an identical concert \u201cThe Enchanted Night\u201d (\u591c\u4e4b\u9b45\u529b). <br>Venue: Recital Studio, Esplanade. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>15 Feb 2020<\/td><td>Moved all activities online and started voice training of students who were members of the two music societies.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>16 Jan 2021<\/td><td>Published a book in Chinese entitled \u201cPrinciples of Voice Training \u2013 Chronology of Online Voice Training Classes\u201d (\u6b4c\u5531\u58f0\u4e50\u6155\u8bfe\u2013\u7ebf\u4e0a\u6559\u5b66\u8bb0\u8981). The book was written by Prof Li Lie Gang, president of Hua Xia Philharmonic Society and artistic director of the New Horizon Music Society. The book was launched at 16<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0floor of the National Library.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>21 Oct 2021<\/td><td>Launched the production of a cantata adopted from \u201cSERENADE\u201d, a large-scale original Mandarin musical staged in May 2001. The cantata entitled \u201cSerenade amidst Pandemic\u201d was trial tested at the Recital Studio, Esplanade. It is expected to be officially launched in 2024 in celebration of the 30-year anniversary of the Hua Xia Philharmonic Society.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>25 Jun 2022<\/td><td>The book entitled \u201cThirty Years Journey Down Melody Lane\u201d (\u884c\u4e91\u8e0f\u6b4c\u4e09\u5341\u8f7d),\u00a0was published and launched officially at the 16<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0floor of the National Library. The book in Chinese, which recorded faithfully the achievements of the two societies, was written by Mrs Kuo Effie Lo, in her capacity as the founding president of the New Horizon Music Society and the founding secretary of the Hua Xia Philharmonic Society.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>26 Jun 2022 \u00a0<\/td><td>Prof Li Lie Gang gave his 1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0talk of his Public Lecture Series entitled \u201cLi Lie Gang\u2019s Sharing of Vocal Teaching and Stage Performance\u201d at the Auditorium of School of Humanities and Social Sciences, NTU. \u00a0The talk was organized by the Hua Xia Philharmonic Society and the New Horizon Music Society, in collaboration with the Chinese Heritage Centre and chaired by Prof Yow Cheun Hoe, the president of the Chinese Heritage Centre.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>02 Oct 2022<\/td><td>Prof Li Lie Gang gave his 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0talk of his Public Lecture Series entitled \u201cLi Lie Gang\u2019s Sharing of Vocal Teaching and Stage Performance\u201d at the Auditorium of the Grassroots Club. The talk was also organized by the two music societies in collaboration with Chinese Heritage Centre, and chaired by Prof Yow Cheun Hoe, the president of the Chinese Heritage Centre.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>26 Mar 2023<\/td><td>Prof Li Lie Gang gave his 3<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0talk of his Public Lecture Series entitled \u201cLi Lie Gang\u2019s Sharing of Vocal Teaching and Stage Performance\u201d at the Auditorium of the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC). The lecture was chaired by Prof Kuo Chen Yu Eddie, the adviser of the Hua Xia Philharmonic Society since 1994 and Emeritus Professor, NTU.
